Why Am I Leaning English?

I have three goals.

At first, I want to be able to understand what English speakers speak.
If I'll become so, I'll enjoy more.
Because when I'm watching the movies, I don't need the subtitles.

At second, I want to be able to read and write English.
If I'll become so, I'll be able to spread my world.
Because there are too many things written by English more than Japanese. For example, books and website.

At last, I want to be able to speak English.
If I'll become so, I'll be able to help you.
Because when if you visit to Japan and you are lost, and if I see you, I'll be able to tell you the right way.

But, I'll spend many times to be so.

Very nice goals... Although still I really don't understand it's importance, I think learning English is really really5x important. I didn't realized that one and maybe it's because I already converse much more in straight English. Hope you learn it the faster the better and hope you'll pronounce it better than writing too. Pronouncing and conversing in English is better than writing good paragraphs. *thumbs up!!!*

When I went to Japan I got lost! I don't speak Japanese so you'll have to help me out next time man!

Big up AEZ

I like the goals you have set. they are realistic, and they will make it easier for you to communicate (both orally and written)with people from around the world. Keep going, be positive. i'm sure you'll get there!! having a blog like yours is such a smart way to do it :-)

Yes. I'm learning pronounce too. But learning conversation is the problem. Because it can't learn by my own.

"by myself" is right?

high101 said...

"by myself" would be more preferable^^

yeah by myself is right.

Instead of "At first,...At second...At last..."

When you are listing reasons for something, it is more natural to use "First, Second, Last,"

or

"First of all, Second, And Finally..."

When you put "at" in front of "first" it's more often used to tell a story. For example: "At first I wasn't very good at snowboarding, but after practicing all winter I got better."

We never say "at second" unless you are talking about baseball :)

"At last" means "finally," like when something you have been waiting for finally happens. Example:

"At last it's time to go home! What a long day!"

I hope this helps! And I think those are lovely reasons for wanting to learn English. Any tourist in Japan who bumps into you will be very lucky!

You're very specific with your goals, so congratulations with that. :)

I want to learn how to speak Japanese!

I think you're doing a very good job at learning to write English. My ancestors are Italian and I want to learn Italian, but I'd rather be able to converse with someone in everyday speech. Anyone can put words together, but there's nothing like being able to speak with someone in a conversation.
The most important thing is that you are working to fulfill your goals and that's a wonderful thing!!

Well keep up the good effort! You are definitely on the road to fluency.

I would love to try to pick up Japanese again. I took a year in high school to learn but I didn't have any opportunity to continue after that. It would be nice to watch some anime without the subtitles. >=)

Aww...Do your best <3
I am Japanese, too, but I an't help you much since I was born in America and barely know any Japanese XD.
Yes, English is a tough language, but you can pull it off! Do your best! I'm cheering for you! Give it 110%!

I have not read all the responses so perhaps I am repeating what others have said. I too am a student of foreign languages and one thing that I have learned is that constant correction of those little mistakes that everyone makes in every new language that they learn is imperative so to that end....I will do this line by line, please remember my remarks are just pedagogical ok :)
able to understand WHEN English speakers speak...If I get/achieve this, I'll...
just Second not at second...
If I get/achieve this...spread the word? not world (typo perhaps??)

Froschkönigin said...

sorry me again :)

just to finish...

And finally not 'at last' (at last is for when you finally get something e.g. I got it at last...)
If I get/achieve this...

so either when or if never both together...

Perhaps your english is so good that these mistakes apart from the obvious typos are intentional? and it is I who is missing the point? Anyway, what you write scans very well, a form of Haiku perhaps..

Impressive anyway....

Have you checked out the website yappr.com? My husband is learning English and he loves it. You can watch a variety of videos and see the words scroll by karaoke style in English AND whatever language you choose.

I read your post and all the comments.
Im still learning english in everyday life.
1. Understand who speak english, I am half way thru,
2. read and write in english, I am pretty good tho. ^^. well Im pretty sure everyone understand my written english.
3.speak english - this is the main problem. when english converstaion is needed, I would go wtf am i saying.and the word "A~ A~ A~" will always appear and I cant think for that I cant speak. frozen brain I think. I was hoping to cure that...and still hoping ^^

Congratulations on beginning! That's hte most important step. Then you must try to find a little time each day for your English study. Speaking is good, that's true, but you must understand how to use the grammar to speak well, and in that area, we can help you here.

Best wishes!

Hi,
I'm from Indonesia, so English is a foreign language for me. In fact most of my reasons 'why I learn English' are the same as your reasons. I am also learning English now. I think English is a very important language to be learnt. If I know English, I'll be able to comunicate with another people in the world. Cheers!

By the way, now I'm working for a Japanese company. So actually I also want to learn Japan language. Would you like to teach me Nihon go?

KP said...

hey its good to lear english bcz its a universal language & this will help u to connect with world.. english is now very important if one wants to go outside his circle..
all the best to you for learning english as i m also on the same path to learn english bcz i want to connect with the world...

This is a great blog post. It would be good poem! Try not to write "because" a the first of the sentence. "Because" is usually after a clause to explain something.

Example: I want to go to the park, because Sam is going. "I want to go to the park" is a clause. "because Sam is going" explains why "I want to go to the park". See how it is used to explain why "I want to go to the park."

Keep up the good work! English is a very strange language, but with practice it is very rewarding. Try taking a trip to a English speaking country to practice your English, because it is a great way to get the language down. Have fun learning!

-Colby

P.S. If you'd like, you can always ask me any question. I will be glad to help!

I'm from Malaysia. I took Japanese lessons when I was in boarding school. However, I quit that school because of my poor health. Reading your blog however, inspired me to learn most, if not all, about Japan. Who knows, maybe you'll bring me on a tour around Japan if I travel there. It'll be easy conversing to a Japanese who can converse in English!

*Two-Thumbs Up!!*
